Particular attention is paid to British and American English, earlier varieties of English (old and middle English) as well as other standard and non-standard English variants.Įnglish cultural studies is concerned with the sociocultural characteristics of and connections between English-speaking countries and their cultural products, with particular attention paid to underlying social structures.

Program ContentĮnglish and American studies as a discipline focuses in research and teaching on the language, literature, and culture of the English-speaking world, from its beginnings to the present day.Įnglish literary studies are concerned with questions of literary theory and comparative literature as applied to the history of English and North American literature, but also takes account of other English-speaking literatures.Įnglish linguistics is concerned with questions of linguistic theory as applied to the English language, its history, and the current state of its development.
